Ridley Drama Group

Ridley High School is proud of the opportunities it provides for students who wish to participate in the study of dramatic arts, play performance, technical theatre, and musical theatre. Ridley Drama Group, an award winning extracurricular theatre program,produces two musicals on the
main stage each year, a festival performance, and a Broadway Cabaret for charity. Students in grades 9-12 are welcome to audition for these productions, or to sign up to be part of one of the technical crews. 

Ridley Drama Group participates in the Cappies of Greater Philadelphia Program, which provides reviews of local high school shows and
sponsors an awards gala every May to honor the performers of the year.

Students may also register for one of four theatre courses  offered in the RHS curriculum. Dramatic Arts is offered to students, grades 9-12, on a beginner to intermediate level who wish to learn more about acting technique, theatre history, and play production. Play Performance is offered to students, grade 10-12, who have completed Dramatic Arts and obtained teacher approval. This course is an advanced acting and play analysis course focused on dramaturgical study and full length play production. Introduction to Stage Tech is a beginner technical course that samples all of the areas of technical theatre including sound design, lighting design, prop design, scenic design, and costume design. Musical Theatre is an advanced performance course with a  concentration on musical theatre analysis and performance.

Students who participate in one or more of these classes or activities may be eligible for induction into the International Thespian Society. Ridley's ITS Troupe 2103 sponsors many community service projects, produces both musicals, performs to raise money for charity, and attends the annual Pennsylvania State Thespian Conference to compete for scholarship and celebrate the arts in Pennsylvania.
